One reason is that receiving broadcasts over offer viewers the best HDTV signal. It is better than you get with satellite or cable receivers. The best antenna for digital HD is the same as the best antenna for any other reception: one that is big and tall. You do not need a special HDTV antenna.
If you are located close to an antenna site, you may get by with just “rabbit ears”. But if you are going to avoid satellite and cable receivers, it is suggested an old-fashioned TV antenna works best. If the appearance of that seems unsightly, do investigate an attic antenna. You get most of the advantages of an outside antenna without all that unsightly aluminum hanging over your house.
